Strengthening Cyber Resilience Through Education via Essential Cyber Hygiene Bootcamp

    Cybersecurity starts with the fundamentals.

connect secureWhile threat actors continue to adopt new tactics and technologies, many successful cyberattacks still exploit weaknesses that organizations have the ability to address. Unmanaged assets, excessive privileges, misconfigurations, and unpatched systems continue to create opportunities for attackers, regardless of an organization’s size or industry.

For many organizations, the challenge is not knowing that these risks exist. It’s knowing where to begin and how to prioritize cybersecurity efforts in a way that delivers meaningful results.

That’s where essential cyber hygiene comes in.

To help organizations build and sustain a strong cybersecurity foundation, the Center for Internet Security® (CIS®) and ConnectSecure have partnered to deliver the Essential Cyber Hygiene Fundamentals Bootcamp, a virtual training program designed to help cybersecurity practitioners put foundational security practices into action through the CIS Controls® and CIS Implementation Group 1 (IG1) Safeguards.

    Why Essential Cyber Hygiene Matters

Strong cyber hygiene is often the difference between a resilient organization and one that is vulnerable to common attacks.

At CIS, the term essential cyber hygiene is used to describe the implementation of the CIS IG1 Safeguards, a prioritized set of actions designed to help organizations defend against the most common cyber threats. These safeguards represent the foundational cybersecurity practices that every organization should have in place, regardless of size, sector, or cybersecurity maturity

Essential cyber hygiene focuses on answering some of the most fundamental questions in cybersecurity:

    • Do you know what assets exist in your environment?
    • Are your most important systems properly protected?
    • Are users granted only the access they need?
    • Are vulnerabilities being identified and addressed?
    • Can you detect and respond to threats?
    • Are you prepared to recover and improve after an incident?

While these questions may seem straightforward, organizations often struggle to answer them consistently. Without visibility into assets, software, accounts, and vulnerabilities, it becomes difficult to make informed security decisions or effectively manage risk.

The CIS IG1 Safeguards provide a practical roadmap for addressing these challenges. They help organizations focus on the actions that matter most, creating a solid foundation upon which more advanced security capabilities can be built.

    From Framework to Practice

Cybersecurity frameworks are valuable because they provide guidance and structure. However, their true value comes from implementation.

The Essential Cyber Hygiene Fundamentals Bootcamp was developed to help bridge the gap between understanding cybersecurity best practices and operationalizing them within an organization. Rather than focusing solely on concepts, the training emphasizes practical application and sustainable security processes that participants can bring back to their teams.

Throughout the four-day virtual program, participants learn how to assess their current cyber hygiene maturity, identify priorities for improvement, and establish repeatable processes that support long-term security outcomes. The training is built around the CIS IG1 Safeguards and follows six core questions that guide organizations through visibility, protection, risk reduction, response, recovery, and continuous improvement.

    Participants will learn how to:

    • Understand and apply the 56 CIS IG1 Safeguards
    • Assess their organization’s cyber hygiene maturity
    • Prioritize foundational security improvements
    • Integrate cybersecurity best practices into daily operations
    • Create repeatable processes for reducing risk
    • Utilize practical templates and implementation resources to accelerate adoption

A Partnership Focused on Cybersecurity Outcomes

The bootcamp brings together CIS’s globally recognized cybersecurity best practices and ConnectSecure’s expertise in vulnerability and compliance management. The result is a vendor-agnostic learning experience that focuses on cybersecurity principles and operational practices rather than specific products or tools.

Designed for practitioners at all experience levels, the training helps organizations establish a common understanding of cyber hygiene and provides a framework that can be applied across a wide range of environments. Whether participants are building a cybersecurity program from the ground up or looking to strengthen existing practices, the bootcamp offers practical guidance for improving security outcomes.

Participants who successfully complete the bootcamp and pass the final assessment receive a co-branded CIS and ConnectSecure Certificate of Completion and digital badge recognizing their achievement.

    Invest in Your Security Foundation

Technology alone cannot create resilience. Lasting cybersecurity improvements are built on strong processes, informed decision-making, and a commitment to foundational security practices.

By helping practitioners understand, implement, and sustain essential cyber hygiene, the CIS and ConnectSecure partnership aims to equip organizations with the knowledge and skills needed to reduce risk and strengthen their cybersecurity posture over time.

The Essential Cyber Hygiene Fundamentals Bootcamp is offered monthly for organizations looking to take the next step in their cybersecurity journey.
